SUMMARY:Basic Blacksmith Class June 11 to 13\, 2026
DESCRIPTION:Basic Blacksmithing Class – Tool Making\n\nJune 11  @ 4:00 pm – June 13 @ 4:30 pm\, 2026\n\nThis blacksmithing course is well designed to help the beginner develop basic techniques. We start with lighting and controlling the fire and hammer control. Students have the opportunity to work on both coal and propane forges. \nProjects incorporate basic forging techniques allowing students to learn while building fire tools they can keep and use on their forge. These tools include a shovel\, rake and poker. Probably the most challenging project of the course would be the forging of a pair of blacksmiths tongs. Requiring precision hammer work along with a fair degree of physical effort the tong project is very demanding as it requires precision hammer work along with a reasonable degree of physical exertion. Yet\, ultimately\, it is very gratifying. The forging of chisels and center punches will also be covered in the course\, which serves as an introduction to tool steels and traditional heat-treating methods. \nThis blacksmithing course includes several other projects along with time for experimentation. While a hands-on course\, there is still plenty of time for discussing techniques\, design\, aesthetics\, and traditions. Also\, many advanced forging techniques\, such as forge welding\, will be demonstrated and discussed. Resource info on forge construction and discussions on basic setup requirements provide the would-be hobby smith with everything required to get started at home. \nStudents always seem to enjoy the weekend and the camaraderie of the other students. A positive team atmosphere of mutual accomplishment makes for a uniquely memorable experience. Well worth the money since the student leaves with the tools and knowledge to begin on their own. \nNo experience is required\, but we highly recommend reading The New Edge of the Anvil. \nAll materials included. \n$700.00 CAD + HST. \nTwenty hours of Intensive study. The course runs from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm Day 1 and 8:30 am to 4:30 pm Days 2 and 3. \n\n
